[ARCHIVED] Parker Completes Downtown Parking Study; Recommendations to be Implemented

Preliminary Downtown Parker Parking Recommendations 2017 041117

To meet the parking needs of those who visit Parker’s vibrant downtown and to proactively plan for the future, the Town invested in a comprehensive parking study to identify current and future parking needs and opportunities in the downtown area. After a lengthy study, which included an in-depth public participation component, a draft Downtown Parking Study and Plan was completed and presented to Town Council on Monday, March 27, 2017.

Following the presentation and discussion, the Town Council indicated support for several near-term plan recommendations and directed staff to implement time-managed parking in certain areas of downtown Parker by mid-May 2017, as outlined below:

  • Time-managed parking with two-hour limits on Mainstreet, Pikes Peak Drive and Pikes Peak Avenue
  • Effective Hours: Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Overview of Downtown Parking Study and Plan

Completed by Parker’s Community Development Department and project consultant Kimley-Horn, the draft Downtown Parking Study and Plan includes an analysis of how existing parking spaces are currently used in the downtown area, and identifies solutions to meet the needs of local businesses, residents and visitors. The plan also provides a series of recommendations to prepare the Town to strategically approach and implement a Downtown Parking Management Program. Implementation strategies will address a number of critical elements of downtown parking, including:

Short and Mid-Term Goals

  • Development of parking policies
  • Public outreach and education
  • Update of the Town’s current parking standards for the downtown area
  • Shared parking opportunities
  • Develop way-finding signage

Long-Term Goals

  • Continue to analyze long-term, future parking capacity
  • Work with a master developer to implement future downtown-area parking options
  • Explore options to provide additional parking for special events
