[ARCHIVED] Smokin' Brew BBQ Returns to Downtown Parker

It’s becoming an annual Parker tradition that you don’t want to miss – the Smokin’ Brew BBQ festival held each Labor Day weekend in downtown Parker.

Hosted by the CCV Rotary Club of Parker and sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the Sixth Annual Smokin’ Brew will once again bring great BBQ flavors and competitors, as well as some talented musicians, to Town for the last three-day weekend of summer. The 2014 event at Parker Station kicks off at 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, and festivities will conclude with an awards ceremony at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31. Entries submitted from over 50 competitors from throughout the Midwest will vie for bragging rights and $8,500 in prize money.

Proceeds benefit local and international charities, including Project Sanctuary, Douglas County Support Center, Parker Task Force and the Crisis Center, as well as the Rotary’s educational and international programs.

In addition to the BBQ, guests can enjoy diverse music provided by locally and nationally known groups. The entertainment begins Friday with Syke 96, winner of Arvada’s Jam Out Hunger Battle of the Bands competition, that will play from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by the Indulgers from 7 to 10 p.m. On Saturday, Parker’s own Blinker Fluid will take to the stage from noon to 3 p.m., followed by nationally known Catfish Kray Blues Band from 4 to 7 p.m. and Lewis and Floorwax Groove Hawgs from 8 to 10 p.m. Sunday will feature Viretta from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Black Jack Canyon Band from 2 to 5 p.m.

Hours for Smokin’ Brew BBQ are 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The event is free to attend, although tickets must be purchased for food and drinks.
